Chhattisgarh is a state of central India which has a land maximum in the forest area of approximate 135133 sq. kms. 44 percent of the total land of Chhattisgarh  comes under forest which contributes 12 percent of the India's total forest .  The state has very good opportunities for wild life and eco tourisms because of its biodiversity . Chhattisgarh is a perfect destination for nature and wild life lover . State bird of the Chhattisgarh is Hill Myna and Animal is Wild Buffalo . 



There are a 3 National Park in the Chhattisgarh 

1- Guru Ghasidas National Park : 

The Guru Ghasidas National Park is a beautifully protected reserve stretched into an area of 1440.71 Sq. kilometres. The park is one of the unique national parks in the area and is a must visit when travelling to the state of Chhattisgarh. It is located in the Koriya District of Chhattisgarh and was initially a part of the Sanjay National Park in Madhya Pradesh. However, after the formation of Chhattisgarh, 60% of the park landed in the Koriya district and this part was renamed Guru Ghasidas National Park.

Guru Ghasidas National Park is a mesh of small streams cutting through forests which contain immense amounts of distinct flora and fauna that catches the eye of nature lovers all around the country. Aside from the lush greenery and the serene atmosphere, the park also offers safaris which truly highlight the parks most excellent features and also allows picnics to be held inside the premises, with a choice of backdrop for the meal.




2- Indravati National Park : 

Indravati National Park is a national park located in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh state of India. It derives its name from the nearby Indravati River. It is home to one of the last populations of rare wild buffalo. Indravati National Park is the finest and most famous wildlife parks of Chhattisgarh. It is one among the two project tiger sites in Chhattisgarh along with Udanti-sitanadi, Indravati National Park is located in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. The park derives its name from the Indravati River, which flows from east to west and forms the northern boundary of the reserve with the Indian state of Maharashtra. With a total area of approximately 2799.08 km2, Indravati attained the status of a national park in 1981 and a tiger reserve in 1983 under the famous Project Tiger of India, to become one of the most famous tiger reserves of India. its well connected to Airport Raipur and By road (480km) from Raipur and nearest railway station is Dantewada (90 km ) 




3- Kanger valley National Park : 

The name of Kanger Ghati National Park is derived from the Kangar river, which flows in its length. Kanger Valley is spread over 200 square kilometers.

 Kanger Valley got the status of a national park in the year 1982. It is a friendly place for high mountains, deep valleys, giant trees and various species of wildlife. Kanger Valley National Park is a typical  mixed humid deciduous type of forest, in which the Sal, Saugaun, teak and bamboo trees are available in abundance. The most popular species  in this area is Bastar Maina  which  enchant everyone with their human voice  . The state bird, Bastar Maina, is a type of Hill maina (gruncula Dhariosoa), which is capable of emulating the human voices. The forest is  home to migrant and resident birds.

Apart from wildlife and plants, this National Park is home to three exceptional caves – famous for their  amazing geological structures of Kutumsar, Kailash and Dandak- Stellagmites and Stalactitees. National Park is known for the presence of underground limestone caves with dripstone and floston. The  stalegmites and stalactite formation is still increasing. Caves in the National Park provides shelter for various species of wildlife.  In the eastern part of the National Park, the Bhainsadhara is  located where one can see the  sandy beaches where crocodiles (crocodlus palestris)  mostly found.

Tirathgarh Waterfall is located in Kanger Valley National Park. The Kenjhardhara and Bhainsadhara are famous for Crocodile Park. Gypsy Safari is available for tourists to explore the natural beauty of the park.




There are 9 Wildlife sanctuary in Chhattisgarh 

1- Tamor Pingla Wildlife sanctuary Sarguja District :  

Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary in Surguja district borders Uttar Pradesh. The name of the sanctuary is derived from Tamor Hill and Pingla Nalla. They are ancient and significant features of this area. Moran river flows through this sanctuary and drains into Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar reservoir in Uttar Pradesh. It is 100km from Ambikapur and 35 km north of Surajpur. Sprawling over an area of 608.55 sq km the sanctuary houses innumerable species of trees and wildlife. Pimpri is the closest railway station. The area lacks proper communication. Ghui and Biharpur ranges come under the South Surguja Forest Division. Mixed deciduous forests dominate the sanctuary. Sal and bamboo forests are seen all through. Tigers, leopards, bears, sambar deer, blue bulls, chital, bison and many such animals are found here. A variety of birds and reptiles are also seen in this region. November to June is the best time to explore this sanctuary. Ranchi in Jharkhand and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh are the closest airports. Surajpur is the closest railway station. Tourists and researchers can halt at Ramkola or Ambikapur.


2- Badalkhol Wildlife sanctuary Jashpur  : 

BadalKhole Adhyayan situated in forest department, the area of this place is 104 square fit, the climate of this place is totally optimum for the wild animals & birds. This place is totally hill-station so tourist lick to come this place specially in their summers vacations, in side of Abhyaran in gram Kurhati pana have residential houses by the department of Forest.

Badalkhol Wildlife Sanctuary has a rich wildlife density. The sanctuary is open for major part of the year but the best time to make a visit to the sanctuary is from the months of November to June. It has a rich flora and fauna. You can find evergreen sal forests as well as the mixed forests of diverse qualities in the sanctuary. 

Flora & Fauna:

Important species of animals that are found here include spotted dear, deer, gazelle and chinkara. Other animals like sloth bear, nilgai, hyena, sloth bear, Chausingha and Sambar can also be found here. As for the birds stork, peacock, quail, fowl, parrot and pigeon can be found here. Often several migratory birds also visit this place. Leopards and tigers too can be spotted here however these are limited by numbers.   Location: Jashpur District Distance from Raigarh: 160kms





3- Bhoramdeo sanctuary  Kwardha 

Bhoramdev Sanctuary is spread over Green Hariers. Expanded in the area of 352 square kilometer, this sanctuary boasts many natural and prehistoric features in it. Kanha National Park and Achanakmar Tiger reserve provides protection for both.

Bhormadev Sanctuary was notified in the year 2001. Then Chhattisgarh was formed as a new state. Along with the Chilphi Valley, an extended buffer zone of Kanha National Park also came to the newly formed Chhattisgarh state. Since this area of Bhoramdev and Chilphi was already in the form of a corridor between the Kanha National Park and Achnakmar. The movement of wildlife has always been there. Therefore, similarities are also found in the species of wild beings naturally. It was also notified here only on the name of Bhomdev Temple, named after Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh.

Bhormadev Temple Sanctuary extends from 800 53 ‘east latitude to 810 10’ latitude and 210 54 ‘north longitude 220 15’. In the north it extends to the southern boundary of Dindori district, then Mandalakona touches the northern boundaries of the village in the south. Similarly, from Chapri village to Chapri village is the eastern boundary of the Western Border Reserve, this sanctuary stretches to the fifth village of Balaghat district situated on the eastern boundary of Kanha National Park in the west.


4- Gomarda Wildlife Sanctuary Sarangarh : 


Gomarda Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Sarangarh. There are a lot of hilly terrains in the region. Spread over 275 sq km it is one of the ideal destination for the adventure seekers.

Gomarda Wildlife Sanctuary, Chattisgarh has different varities of wild animals. Some of the common species are different types of dears and buffalos. Tourists visit the place to see wild buffalos who move in flocks and make for a pretty sight. If you are lucky then you can also get a other species like the Nilgiri, Sambars, Gaurs, Barking Deer, Chausinkara, Muntjac, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Dhole or the wild dog and the Jackel.


5- Barnavpara Wildlife Sanctuary Mahasamund :

Barnawapara Wildlife sanctuary, is named after Bar and nawapara forest villages, which are in the heart of the sanctuary. It is a land mass of undulating terrain dotted with numerous low and high hillocks well forested area of North-eastern corner of Raipur district. The Tributaries of Mahanadi are the source of water. River Balam Delhi forms the western boundary and Jonk River forms the north-eastern boundary of the Sanctuary. The well stocked forests of the Sanctuary Classified as Teas sal and mixed forests. This sanctuary is famous for the frequent sighting of the Indian bison (Gaur) Cheetal, Sambhar, Neelgai, Wild boar are commonly seen.Bar-Nawapara boosts of over 150 species Birds. 





 6- Bhairamgarh Wildlife sanctuary : 

Bhairamgarh Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) is geographically situated on the east of Bhairamgarh in Bijapur. It is approximately 50 kms. away from Bijapur. The history of BWS dates back to the year 1983. The Government of Chhattisgarh established it in the year 1983 to protect the three remaining groups of wild buffaloes along with different species of plants, trees, birds and wild animals. BWS is covered by marshes,bushes and water bodies. The BWS spans an area of 138.95 sq kms. on the north east of Bijapur in Bijapur district. The sanctuary area falls under Tropical climate zone. It is the home for different species of plants,trees, birds and wild animals. 

Various species of wild animals found in the sanctuary include Nilgai, Sambar, Gaur, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Jackel and striped hyena including wild buffalo. Similarly, ornithologists have also recorded occurrence of the different species of birds living in the sanctuary. Important bird species found in the BWS include Darters, Wood Peckers, Peacocks, Jungle Fowls, Green Pigeons, Quails, Parrots and Stocks including migratory bird species. The BWS comprises mixed deciduous forest, teak forest, dry tropical river rain forest and bamboo brakes.




7- Pamed Wildlife Sanctuary


This sanctuary spread over a region of 262 sq km, Pamed is one of the essential wildlife sanctuaries in Bijapur. Set up in 1983 to accommodate the overabundance population of the wild bison, this sanctuary is also home to the tiger, panther, chital and different types of fauna.

Pamed Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the vital sanctuary. Andhra Pradesh border is close to the sanctuary. The aggregate area is 260 sq km and there is a mixed deciduous forest. The closest railway station is Kirandul.


8- Sitanadi Sanctuary Dhamtari :


Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Dhamtari DistrictChhattisgarh, India. Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is a famous tourist attraction which is frequented by wildlife enthusiasts throughout the year. The wildlife sanctuary was established in 1974 under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. This sanctuary sprawls over an area of 556 km2 and has an altitude ranging between 327 and 736 m above the sea level. It is named after Sitanadi River which originates from this sanctuary and joins Mahanadi River near Deokhut. Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its lush green flora and rich and unique and diverse fauna and has great potential to emerge as one of the finest wildlife destinations in central India

Teak and bamboo predominate among the vegetation. Animals include Tigers, Leopards, Flying Squirrels, Jackals, Four-horned Antelopes, Chinkara, Black Buck, Jungle Cat, Barking Deer, Porcupine, Monkey, Bison, Striped Hyena, Sloth Bear, Wild Dogs, Chital, Sambar, Nilgai , Gaur, Muntjac, Wild Boar, Cobra, Python among many others.[2] The sanctuary is also a paradise for bird watchers, as over 175 species of birds can be seen her



9- Achanakmar Tiger Reserve Bilaspur : 

A visit to the Tiger Reserve assures to be a very mesmerizing experience of Maikal range. Discover the dense lush green Sal and bamboo forests and take delight in wild life viewing. Achanakmar Tiger Reserve is situated in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. Even a short trek through this park easily reveals its extraordinary beauty and biodiversity, The most favorable time to visit Tiger Reserve is from the month of November to the month of June.

FLORA

Sal, bija, saja, haldu, teak, tinsa, dhawara, lendia, khamar and bamboo bloom here along with over 600 species of medicinal plants much larger Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve.

FAUNA

Wild fauna includes the tiger, leopard, bison, flying squirrel, Indian giant squirrel, chinkara, wild dog, hyena, sambar, chital and over 150 species of birds
